Lest we Forget

For the past two weeks the children in Exceptional Eight have been learning about ANZAC day and its place in New Zealand history. They have been able to formulate ideas about why we remember ANZAC day and how this day is celebrated each year by New Zealanders. Ask your children about what they have learnt (a little prompting may be needed), their answers will amaze you!

Below are some of the ideas the children had about why we remember ANZAC Day.

Towards the end of our time looking at ANZAC Day, each child wrote an explanation about why we commemorate ANZAC Day.
Below are a some of examples:

We celebrate Anzac Day because some people died in the war and some people came back.

We celebrate the ones that died in the war and the ones that came back.

Anzac day is about remembering the people who died in your family at the war.

To remember the people that died 100 years ago. We wear poppies.
